2024 W0W Report

A crisp, colorful and clear fall day greeted the DVRA crew as they activated special event station W0W October 27. It was the third annual activation to mark the anniversary of Orson Welles’ 1938 Halloween radio broadcast “War of the Worlds.”

Stations were set up at Van Nest Park in West Windsor, aka Grovers Mill – the spot Welles’ Mercury Theater of the Air writers and players chose for the fictitious Martian landings that spurred panic on the East Coast.

Tinfoil hats and bobbing head antennas were the order of the day as DVRA volunteers worked the bands.

We made 215 QSOs with over a dozen countries. QSOs were made on voice (157 Qs), FT8 (4 Qs), & CW (54 Qs). We certainly had a strong showing from our CW operators this year.
