On Wednesday, February 14th, 2024 at 7:00PM, the Delaware Valley Radio Association’s monthly membership meeting featured a presenation by Mike Rauch, K2VPX titled, “Demystifying Programming”.
In person monthly meetings are held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W Upper Ferry Rd, Ewing Township, NJ 08628 (Driving Directions). For the convenience of our members, these meetings are also hosted on Zoom. Members will receive an email with instructions on how to join the Zoom teleconference. Members of the public are invited to request conference credentials by sending a message to webmaster@w2zq.com.
Today, a teenager is more likely to have been exposed to computer programming than resistors and capacitors. Yet, aside from some spectacular programming projects by radio amateurs, such as the digital modes, the average ham sees programming as an arcane (understood by a few) and difficult to learn skill. The objective of the presentation was to introduce the basic concepts of programming in an easy to understand manner. The goal was not to teach programming, but rather to take away some of the mystery and barriers that might keep someone from getting the motivation to learn programming.
Mike Rauch, K2VPX, has been an amateur radio operator since he was sixteen years old. This interest led him to study electronics and computer science in college, followed by careers in corporation data processing and telecommunications, an internet startup, and ending as a researcher in advanced telecommunications devices and protocols.
Since retirement, Mike has been busy with digital ham radio modes, 3D printing, cooking, travel and too many other interests to list.
Our monthly meetings are open to the public. Feel free to join for all or part of each meeting.
